Texas Defunds Planned Parenthood from Medicaid Program

“In 2011, the Texas Legislature defunded Planned Parenthood $29 million per year in taxpayer dollars. This past session, the Legislature went further and removed Planned Parenthood from the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening program, shifting $1.4 million to other providers. And now Planned Parenthood has finally been cut out of the Texas Medicaid Program, from which they were receiving nearly $2 million a year,” said Joe Pojman, Ph.D., executive director of Texas Alliance for Life. “We are pleased that Planned Parenthood will no longer be receiving these taxpayer dollars, while the Gov. Abbott and the Texas Legislature are funding women’s health services at historically high levels through thousands of better providers.”

Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Upholds Pro-Life House Bill 2

We are pleased that the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals agrees that the State of Texas has a right to increase safety standards at abortion facilities to protect the health and safety of women. We commend Gov. Greg Abbott for diligently and effectively defending this reasonable law against attacks from the abortion industry when he was the attorney general.

The pro-life movement can now focus our lifesaving efforts of prayer and sidewalk counseling at seven rather than dozens of locations. And abortions at ASCs are less likely to be performed in a manner that endangers the health and safety of women. All of these are important to the pro-life movement, which cares for mothers and babies.”
