In 2019, the Legislature passed SB 22, also authored by Senator Campbell, to protect taxpayers from funding abortions by political subdivisions. That law has been highly successful.
However, SB 22 did not prevent governments from using tax dollars for paying for abortion logistics, specifically for travel to other states for election abortions in other states where unborn children are not protected from abortion.
The City of Austin has appropriated hundreds of thousands of tax dollars for that purpose. Noteworthy is that Austin spends zero dollars to promote the many alternatives to abortion that the Thriving Texas Families program makes available in Central Texas.
The City of San Antonio is contemplating funding abortion logistics as well.
SB 33 will assure that no tax dollars are used to promote abortion logistics.
