On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Texas Alliance for Life will present our “Courageous Defense of Life” awards to three elected officials at our Annual Benefit Dinner. The dinner location is the Hilton Austin. More than 1,400 guests are expected, making it one of the largest pro-life dinners in Texas. The keynote speaker is Dr. Ron Archer, and the MC is Texas Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick. The dinner will begin at 6:30 PM, and the award presentation is at approximately 7:45 PM.

The event will be streamed on the Texas Alliance for Life Facebook page.

The awardees are United States Senator John Cornyn, Texas State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. (D-Brownsville), and Texas State Representative Jeff Leach (R-Plano).

During his 16 years in the Senate beginning in 2003, U.S. Senator John Cornyn has earned a 100% pro-life voting record. He has supported numerous pro-life measures, including the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, the Hyde Amendment, and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. After being re-elected to his third term, he was elected by his peers to be the Majority Whip.

State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr., has cast countless pro-life votes during his 32 years in the Texas Legislature, including for the Prenatal Protection (personhood) Act, measures to give parents the right to protect their daughters from abortion, informed consent and safety regulations at abortion facilities, the 20 week abortion ban, and many more landmark bills. In 2019 he authored SB 2355 to increase protections for terminally ill patients and successfully ushered that language through the Senate. He also authored SB 24, the Alternatives to Abortion Information Act, which assures that women are handed the state-produced “Woman’s Right to Know” brochures at abortion facilities before they consent to an abortion.

State Representative Jeff Leach is a pro-life champion. During his eight years in the Texas Legislature, Rep. Leach earned an outstanding 100% pro-life voting record. As chair of the House Judicial and Civil Jurisprudence Committee in 2019, Rep. Leach conducted hearings on several pro-life bills including HB 2350, the Trigger Ban on Abortion, HB 4199, the ban on wrongful birth lawsuits, and HB 16, the Born-Alive Infant Protect Act, which he authored. All were top priorities for Texas Alliance for Life this past session.
