NEW ORLEANS, LA — Yesterday evening, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals released its decision to permanently block the ban on dismemberment abortions passed by the Texas Legislature in 2017. That ban requires the abortion doctor to kill an unborn child during a second-trimester abortion prior to dismembering and removing the baby’s body. The case is called Whole Woman’s Health v. Paxton.
“We are disappointed but not surprised,” said Joe Pojman, Ph.D., TAL’s executive director. “This demonstrates once again that the terrible Roe v. Wade precedent is cruel and out of step with science that tells us unborn children are babies deserving of protection. We have seen this in every state that has tried to protect babies from abortion before viability.”
We look to the next state legislative session beginning in January when our top goal will be the passage of the Human Life Protection Act to immediately protect unborn babies from abortion when the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.
