SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Friday suspected of killing his pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend and trying to burn her body.
Courtney Hyriease Velasques, 19, was taken into custody in the 900 block of Upland Road without incident Friday morning.
He will face a charge of capital murder in the death of Dwanna Thomas, 18, whose body was found on Valentine’s Day in a field in near Schuwirth Road and FM 1346.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Gardendale firefighters stumbled up her body as they were battling a grass fire in the area.
She was 18 weeks pregnant when she was killed, authorities said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, witnesses told investigators that Velasquez admitted to drowning the woman in a section of the Salado Creek off Rittiman Road, then trying to burn her body in the field.
