The facilities were marked for violations including unsterilized equipment and “numerous rusty spots” on suction devices, possessing “the likelihood to cause infection.”

According to documents obtained by the Texas Alliance for Life from the Texas Department of State Health Services, four of Hagstrom Miller’s five abortion facilities were cited in the past three years for dozens of health and safety violations. Violations include unsterilized equipment, inadequate medical staffing, expired medications and “numerous rusty spots” on suction machines that had “the likelihood to cause infection.” These conditions hardly fit Hagstrom Miller’s description of a “warm and comforting” atmosphere and a safe, caring oasis for women. These are the types of safety violations that the Texas law is meant to protect women from.

The report, compiled by the pro-life group Texas Alliance for Life, reviewed inspection records it obtained through public information that it says shows many abortion facilities are not meeting even current safety standards and are endangering women’s health and safety.

Texas Alliance for Life reported yesterday that this same abortion chain that is currently fighting before the Supreme Court to strike down a law on abortion safety regulations has a history of failed inspections, dirty equipment, untrained staff and other health violations. These repeated health violations among the Whole Woman’s Health chain show that there is a pattern of serious mismanagement among these Texas facilities.
