Joe Pojman, the Texas Alliance for Life executive director, said Monday’s ruling proved the current court is hostile to the medical regulation of abortion. The silver lining, he said, is the court fight has driven out doctors who otherwise would have performed the procedure for the last three years.

“We do not know exactly what’s possible under this decision,” said Joe Pojman, executive director of the advocacy group Texas Alliance for Life. “We’re going to be poring through it with our attorneys and our physicians to figure out if the Supreme Court will allow the state to do anything meaningful to raise the safety standards at those freestanding abortion facilities.”

“We want to protect every unborn child from abortion but the Supreme Court obviously, severely ties the hands of the legislature so we can only do what’s possible,” said Pojman.

Several pro-life groups, such as Texas Alliance for Life, told The Christian Post that the ruling is a big blow for states looking to mandate safety standards in the abortion industry.
“We think what it means is that states are not able to pass reasonable safety standards to regulate abortion facilities, to bring them up to the same standards of care that patients enjoy for similar procedures other than abortion,” said Texas Alliance for Life’s Joe Pojman.
