The U.S. Supreme Court is re-entering the abortion debate, with Texas as the focus. “We still remain confident the law will be upheld, it was passed with a wide majority of the state house and senate, and signed by Governor Perry”, says Joe Pojman with the Texas Alliance for Life, which supports the law.

“We realize that there’s not a realistic way to ban abortions. They are going to remain readily available,” says Joe Pojman, executive director of Texas Alliance for Life, which helped write the state law. Given that, he says, “we believe that the states should protect the health and safety of women who are undergoing abortions.”

“The goal of HB2 is to ensure that abortions are not done in a manner that puts the health and safety of women at risk,” said Joe Pojman of the Texas Alliance for Life, referring to the law’s nickname. “While not our preference, the reality is that abortion will remain readily available in Texas and will continue to occur tens of thousands of times a year even if the Supreme Court allows HB2 to go into effect.”
