AUSTIN – Texas Alliance for Life (TAL) has presented State Representative Greg Bonnen, M.D. (R-Friendswood) with the organization’s prestigious Courageous Defense of Life Award at a presentation in the Texas Capitol.

Of the legislative work considered as a merit for selecting Bonnen as an award recipient, was Bonnen’s bill that requires a physician to obtain the consent of a patient or the patient’s designee/surrogate before issuing a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order. The DNR issue was very contentious; however, Representative Bonnen worked tirelessly to ensure that the negotiation process always held the dignity of life in balance.

“Last session, Representative Bonnen authored a bill reforming the DNR process in Texas, which TAL strongly supported,” said TAL Executive Director Joe Pojman. “We were proud of the hard-pressed work by Representative Bonnen, he is a tremendous leader and continues work to ensure pro-life bills are passed and implemented. We present him with our highest award and thank him for his ongoing strong stand for life,” Pojman added.

This past year, during the 85th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature, Texas celebrated another sensational session on the life issue. For a full listing of pro-life accomplishments in the 85th Legislative session please visit the TAL website. Pro-life success carried on through the First Called Special Session in the summer of 2017. Upon the conclusion of the special session, the Legislature passed an additional four pro-life bills. Texas Alliance for Life strongly supported each of these pro-life bills during the special session. To learn more about these bills, please click here.
