Members of our Leadership Circle and their guests are invited to attend our quarterly luncheons. Our next Leadership Circle Luncheon will take on Thursday, August 6th at 11:15 am.
Our special guest speaker is Clarke Forsythe, the Senior Counsel at Americans United for Life, where he has worked for 35 years, and the author of Abuse of Discretion: The Inside Story of Roe v. Wade (Encounter Books 2013). Abuse of Discretion was favorably reviewed in the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Times, First Things, World Magazine, National Review, the Claremont Review of Books, and other journals. Jeffrey Rosen, President of the National Constitution Center, wrote in the Wall Street Journal that ‘Abuse of Discretion provides a cautionary tale about the political and constitutional hazards of unnecessarily broad Supreme Court decisions.’
Clarke has been co-counsel for parties in three U.S. Supreme Court cases and has argued cases before federal and state appellate courts. He has also testified before Congress and state legislatures. Clarke has authored or co-authored more than 20 professional legal articles on constitutional and bioethical issues. His latest, entitled “A Draft Opinion Overruling Roe v. Wade” was published in the Georgetown Journal of Law & Public Policy in 2018. His other articles have been published in the Wall Street Journal (“The Smart Way to Overturn Roe v. Wade”), Los Angeles Times, The Washington Times, The Federalist, The Hill, and many other newspapers and magazines. Clarke has also been featured on three podcasts produced by the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
His first book, Politics for the Greatest Good, which draws on lessons in political prudence from Thomas Aquinas, William Wilberforce, and Abraham Lincoln, was published by InterVarsity Press (IVP) in 2009. Clarke has a B.A. from Allegheny College, a J.D. from Valparaiso University, and an M.A. in Bioethics from Trinity International University, where he has been an Adjunct Professor of Bioethics. Clarke and his wife, Karen, married for 38 years, have five daughters.
In addition, we will have a chance to hear from our executive director, Dr. Joe Pojman, who will give a Texas Alliance for Life update on the latest accomplishments and happenings of the organization as well as some upcoming focus areas for the team.
Venue Capacity is limited. Current and potential Leadership Circle members and their guests are welcome. RSVP to Lance Peterson at 512.477.1244 or Lance@texasallianceforlife.org, by Friday, July 31st. We so look forward to spending time with YOU!
